If there’s one thing that women are good at, it’s noticing intricate details about a person’s appearance. The good thing about this is that they, unlike your mates, can advise you as to what does or doesn’t match, if anything is out of place or just plain ugly! Good fashion advice is hard to come by and the majority of men will overlook this area- though the booming market in men’s grooming products suggests they are slowly catching up.
A few minor adjustments will do the world of good:
- Don’t Be A Sheep
If your clothes are so plain that it would prove difficult for a woman to find something about them to compliment you on even if she wanted to, then you are dressing generically. Wearing dull colours with standard cuts and generally blending into the background will see you become another wall flower. Look around the next time you are in a busy area and check out how other men dress and see how much you can comment on it.
If their jeans, for example, are motif clad with funky details these stand out more than your average pair of Levi’s. If a shirt or t-shirt has a tailored and fitted cut, a funny or memorable slogan, cool detailing, funky colours or a picture, it prevents coming across as bland and will go some way in reflecting your personality in a more positive light.
- You Need Not Break The Bank
An expensive shirt or pair of jeans are wasted if your shoes are ugly and do little to compliment the quality of the rest of your outfit. Spend money on a couple of quality pairs of shoes- one black leather pair and a brown pair, for example. You may then mix and match outfits to suit the occasion based around your new, expensive shoes. Especially during winter it is essential to have a good jacket to top off your outfit. Next in order of priority comes your top and lastly your jeans. A few great outfits will serve a greater purpose than many average ones.
- Match Clothes
Try to avoid looking like mutton dressed as lamb by avoiding wearing more than 3 colours in any one outfit, else you run the risk of having your outfit clash. The skinny jeans look as per Russell Brand is fine but remember to calibrate the rest of your outfit to follow suit- avoid wearing baggy tops when trying to achieve this look, for example.
Sports clothes in general should be avoided- exceptions are of course viable when going to the gym, for example, but sport shoes should be kept on the tread mill. If the situation demands keeping it casual, then invest in designer trainers like those available from Prada.
- Accessorise
Courting attention when accessorising has little to do with the money spent but rather on the statement made. A cool necklace or bracelet from Camden Market proves more effective at catching a woman’s attention than a £10,000 Rolex watch. Try to snare signature necklaces, bracelets and pendants from market stalls and boutiques.
- Look after your mane
The state of a person’s hair says much about them. A hassle free way of sorting this out is to go to an expensive and reputable salon to take advantage of a free consultation to find out what the best look for you is and then go to a cheaper place to get it done! One important point when looking at barbers is that price is by no means a reflection of quality of service so do not be tempted to part with your cash expecting miracles.
If you’re worried about balding then brave the cold and look at perhaps shaving your head (depending on the shape of it)
- Look Like You Just Got Laid
Unbuttoning the top buttons on your shirt conveys that you are a sexually confident man comfortable showing off your body. Think Colin Farrell- a man who conveys sexual energy by not appearing generic.
Hit the shops and maybe even open some sets to ask for female opinions on whether your new shirt looks gay or not. The above will go some way to making sure you get the right kind of attention- especially so from the ladies!
